VALERIE TRAPP

Valerie Trapp is a writer and performer. She has been acting, dancing, and singing since childhood. In New York, she’s studied acting at the Barrow Group and improv at the Brooklyn Comedy Collective. Previously, she studied classical ballet for 12 years at the Orlando Ballet School, and danced salsa with Los Salseros de Stanford. She has appeared in numerous musicals, plays, and short films, including performing a monologue at Lincoln Center.
Currently, she’s an assistant editor on The Atlantic‘s Culture team. You can find her writing in The Atlantic, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists’ palabra., STANFORD Magazine, the Stanford Daily, and elsewhere. She’s given interviews to CNN’s The Lead, WNYC’s The Brian Lehrer Show, and the Financial Times about her journalistic work. She’s also studied playwriting with José Rivera at HB Studio, and performed a staged reading of her one-act play. Right now, she’s directing and producing her one-act for the upcoming perfect10s festival in Brooklyn.
Born to a Dominican mom and a German dad, she was raised between Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and Orlando, Florida. She graduated from Stanford University in 2023 with a B.A. in English and minors in International Relations and Human Rights. She is fluent in Spanish, German, English, and French, and now lives in New York City.
